Want to know more about this topic? So let's go! Keep reading! What is Yellow May? The Yellow May campaign involves an international movement created with the purpose of raising awareness and preventing traffic accidents. As a result, actions are developed with the aim of drawing the attention of class entities, governments, civil society, federations and associations to the high rates of deaths and injuries on highways.
This movement was inspired by other global campaigns that are equally important for society, such as Blue November (prostate cancer) and Pink October (breast cancer). When did Yellow May appear? The idea for Yellow May arose from studies carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the situation of traffic safety in several countries. As a result, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly decided to create a resolution defining the period between 2011 and 2020 as the “Decade Lithuania Phone Number of Action for Road Safety”. The focus was to create global, as well as national and regional plans to prevent the deaths of five million people. In Brazil, the Yellow May campaigns began in 2014. Here, the private sector, the Public Power and civil society come together with the aim of discussing and creating strategies aimed at road safety that help reduce the number of deaths and accidents.
The month of May was chosen for the actions because it was in that month that the UN resolution was published. The color yellow, which represents the campaign, serves to symbolize warning and attention. What is the objective of the campaign? Understanding what Yellow May is and all the aspects involved is very important so that the results are increasingly positive. Above, we highlighted that the objective of the movement is to raise awareness and prevent traffic accidents. However, Yellow May, as it involves several arms of society, such as the Public Power and civil society, is able to go much further in the effectiveness of campaigns compared to actions carried out in isolation by institutions, cities and states. Therefore, the Yellow May movement is an excellent way to promote coordinated action between all participating sectors with the intention of highlighting the issue of traffic safety as much as possible, through the mobilization of society and institutions.
